Chichester Festival Theatre

Chichester Festival Theatre is renowned for the exceptionally high standard of its productions and its thrust stage design makes it one of Englandís most striking playhouses.

 Set in Oaklands Park, Chichester Festival Theatre (CFT) is one of this countries finest theatres. It opened in 1962 under the leadership of its first Artistic Director Laurence Olivier and has the first thrust stage in Britain.It has been rightly described as “one of the few avant-garde theatres to attain architectural distinction in its own right.”

Many famous names of stage and screen have appeared at Chichester, Ian McKellen, Lauren Bacall, Sam Mendes, Kathleen Turner, Stephen Fry, Derek Jacobi, Joseph Fiennes, John Gielgud, Diana Rigg,just to name a few who have trod the boards there over the last fifty years.

 Between April - October, the theatre holds its annual festival which includes classic and contemporary plays, world premieres,concerts and  often a Broadway musical.Thus appealing to all tastes and appetites.

Chichester Festival Theatre is now one of the top tier theatres with a reputation for producing work of the highest quality, ranging from large-cast musicals to more heavyweight dramas. Many of the productions move on to the west end.
