Goodwood Revival Meeting

Goodwood revival, take a step back in time.Motor racing the way it used to be.

The Goodwood Revival is on for the weekend of 13-15 September. And we at Hansfords Menswear can supply almost any clothing you may need for the event. This  meeting will be like a step back in time, celebrating the glory days of motor racing as it once was, with all of the  spectacle and excitement of that era.

Adjust to a slower pace of life and get a close up look at the cars that thrilled you as a boy.

Competitors and spectators alike dress in clothing from that era, in tweed jackets, caps, cavalry twill trousers and cravats and together with all the sights and sounds of pre-1966 motor racing it makes for a wonderfully exciting and nostalgic time.

Breathe in the sights and sounds of a bygon era

Many visitors go to great lengths to look the part and achieve that authentic look. The resulting atmosphere plays a key role in making the Revival such a unique event. So make sure you dress up in your tweeds and trilbies, panamas or caps to take advantage of this nostalgic atmosphere, they don't insist on it but you’ll feel much more involved if you do

Pop into our shop in south street Chichester and we can discuss the look that you would like to create and we can put together an outfit for the day that you will be proud of.

  GGGoodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood festval of speed.A celebration of cars, motorsport and speed.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed was started in 1993 by the then Lord March in order to bring motor racing back to the Goodwood estate which is a location filled with British motor racing history. Originally he wanted to hold it at the goodwood circuit, but lacked the necesssary permit to host a race there ,so instead he held it in his own grounds.

The main event, the hill climb at the Goodwood festval of speed

The main event is classified as a hill climb, and visitors can get right up to edge of the track for a better view. The track climbs to a height of 92.7 metres. The record time was set in 1999 by Nick Heidfeld  who drove a McLaren MP4/13 Formula One car up the hill in 41.6 seconds (100.385 mph ). Unfortunatly for safety reasons F1 cars are no longer allowed to do official timed runs.

The rally circuit in action at the Goodwood festval of speed

In 2006, a forest rally stage was introduced, designed by Hannu Mikkola this is a complete circuit, with a separate start and finish line at the top of the wood. This allows cars to start at timed intervals, allowing many more to run at the same time. Ever since it began Southern Car Club have organised this rally stage, run under an MSA permit.

Other popular attractions at the event are the Michelin Supercar Run , for road legal supercars. Since 2014 cars could opt to do a timed run. It is now common for performance car manufacturers to show off their latest sports model, including newly released production models and working concept cars. Also the airshows, which usually include the RAF Tornado and Red Arrows. Not forgetting the the fully working replicas of the Wacky Races cars, which provides lunchtime entertainment .
